Frequently Asked Questions for Byrd & Massey

Portal & Document FAQs

Did you receive my documents?

Once your documents have been successfully uploaded to the portal, our team receives a notification. You do not need to call to confirm receipt unless instructed otherwise.

I uploaded my documents but forgot a W-2. What should I do?

Simply upload the missing document(s) to the portal as soon as possible and include a note in the description box.

Can I upload documents from my phone?

Yes. You can access the portal from your mobile device and upload documents directly from your files or cloud storage.

Can I upload photos instead of PDFs?

Unfortunately, no. ALL documents must be uploaded in PDF or XLSX. JPG or PNG files will have to be resubmitted.

Return Preparation FAQs

When will my return be finished?

Returns are completed on a first-come, first-served basis based on the date ALL required documents were received.

Why do you need more information?

During preparation, we may identify missing documents, inconsistencies, or items that require clarification to ensure your return is accurate.

Does my spouse need to sign too?

For joint returns, both spouses are generally required to sign the e-file authorization forms before we can submit the return.

I already signed my return. Why hasn't it been filed?

Some returns require additional review steps, spouse signatures, or processing before electronic filing can occur.

Why was an extension filed for my return?

Our goal is always to prepare every return accurately and carefully - not rush it through to meet a deadline. Because we receive hundreds of returns each tax season, we establish an internal document deadline. If all required documents are not received by that date, we may file an extension on your behalf. This gives our preparers and CPAs the time they need to thoroughly review your information, address any questions, and ensure your return is completed correctly.

Remember, an extension gives you more time to file your return, but it does not extend the deadline to pay any tax that may be due. If a balance is expected, we will provide guidance regarding estimated payments when appropriate.

Refund & Payment FAQs

Where's my refund?

Once your return has been filed and accepted, refund status can be checked through your portal’s “Quick Links” or by using the IRS "Where's My Refund?" tool and the Arkansas refund lookup tool.

How do I make a payment to the IRS or Arkansas?

We provide payment instructions with your completed tax return. Follow the instructions on your payment vouchers or watch our payment tutorial videos for step-by-step guidance.

Notices & Other Questions

How much do you charge?

Our base fee for an individual tax return starts at $325. Fees increase based on the forms and schedules required to accurately prepare your return. Since every return is different, the final fee will depend on your specific tax situation.

I received a notice from the IRS. What should I do?

Upload a copy of the notice to the portal and contact our office. Please do not ignore IRS correspondence, as most notices have response deadlines.

I received a notice from the State of Arkansas. What should I do?

Upload a copy of the notice to the portal as soon as possible. Please do not ignore state correspondence, as response deadlines may apply. Many notices from the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration are routine in nature and may be issued as part of standard review or verification processes.
